After spending years as a history teacher and coach, he became a counselor at Freeport Intermediate school then at Brazosport High School.
Ray loved spending time with friends and family watching any type of sporting event, especially high school sports. He loved playing golf with his sons and his friends and organized the Flash Walker — L.Z. Bryan scholarship in honor of two close friends. Aside from time spent with his family, Ray’s happiest moments included a hole in one at Riverside Country Club and throwing out the first pitch at an Austin High School baseball game. Nothing brought Ray more joy than being around young people, from his students to his grandchildren and their teammates.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Viola Langston; sisters Emoline Lovett and Patsy Pike; and his son, Joseph Langston.
He is survived by his beloved and patient wife, Sarah Bono Langston; son, William (wife Jeannie) Langston; grandson, Brady Langston; granddaughters, Katherine Langston & Abigail Langston; daughter-in-law, Jodi Langston; and brothers-in-law, Ben P. (wife Patricia) Bono & Joseph A. (wife Brenda) Bono; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A visitation will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Thursday August 20 starting at 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers from Help, Inc., especially Priscilla Solis, for their endless patience and care. They would also like to thank all the friends who accompanied Ray on his many trips to watch high school playoff games around the state of Texas. You all helped make his journey a great one.
