Ruth Witt Goff left this world peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, August 6, 2021. She lived a beautiful life that was always focused on the ones she loved. Ruthie was born in Houston, Tx. on March 14, 1940 to her beloved parents, Helen and Raymond Witt. Her family moved to Freeport, Tx., where she and her brother, Ray, grew up. Her school years were filled with activities centered around her love of music, dance, and her church. She went on from there to graduate from the University of Texas with a degree in education. She began her married life in Kansas City Missouri, where she taught Kindergarten. Her true life’s passion began when her first son, Charlie, was born. Brothers, Bobby and Stephen soon joined the family, making motherhood Ruthie’s full time job, and one that she loved and excelled in. The family moved to Lake Jackson, Tx. In 1966, and it was there that she lived the rest of her life. She continued her teaching career in Brazosport ISD, where she touched the hearts and minds of many students in her years of teaching third grade at Bess Brannen Elementary. After 20 years in education, Ruthie retired to take care of her parents, and to spend more time with her family, and her love, John Gray. She spent her life caring for and loving her family in all that she did. Her sweet smile, bubbly personality, and infectious giggle will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her brother, Ray Witt, Jr. and wife Cheryl, her sons, Charlie Goff III and wife, Susan, Bob Goff and wife, Kyndell, Stephen Goff and wife, Marilyn, as well as her grandchildren, Hayden Goff and wife, Samantha, Lauren Vance and Husband Cody, Evan Goff and wife Courtney, Elizabeth Stanley and husband Lucas, Alden Goff and wife Callie, Hannah Goff, Kelsey Goff, Stephanie Goff, and Luke Goff, 6 great-grandchildren, and niece, Susan Chrisman and husband J.P. and their children.
Visitation will take place at Restwood Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m on Friday, August 13th, and the funeral will take place at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14th.
As a tribute to Ruthie’s love of teaching, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Brazosport ISD’s “Grants for Great Ideas.” This is an organization that financially supports the innovative ideas of teachers through grants.
