Tommy was born in Titus County, Texas, on November 5, 1934, to Thomas E. and Margaret (Barry) Blalock. He was the younger of two sons. Most of his childhood was spent in the El Campo, Wharton and Victoria areas of Texas. In 1950, his parents moved the family to Snyder, Texas, where he met and courted Delona Key. They were married on August 12, 1954, and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August. He was a devout member of the church of Christ.
Tommy had several careers in his lifetime. He worked as a roughneck in the oilfields of West Texas for Dowell, was a dirt contractor for his father-in-law, a truck driver owning his own truck, a church of Christ minister in Arizona and Texas, and a foreman for the Tool Room at Dow in Lake Jackson, Texas. He retired in February 1995.
He enjoyed his retirement years working in his beautiful yard, playing his guitar while Delona played the piano, and continuing to write sermons and preach when asked.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Jimmie and Vista Key, and brother, Aubrey.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Delona, of Lake Jackson, three children, Lissa Adkins and husband Alan of Angleton, Jay Blalock and wife Sandy of Tyler, Marc Blalock and wife Mirta of Denton, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caring staffs of Carriage Inn and Choice Hospice for their compassion and respect they showed Tommy as he lived with Dementia.
A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Tommy Blalock’s name to Central Texas Children’s Home, 13200 Crane Rd, Buda, TX 78610.
Thanks For The Memories
“I have lived – God knows that I have lived; I have loved – and in return been loved; I have given – and received a hundred-fold; I have suffered – and kept the pain within myself; I have searched – and with your help have found; I have accepted – and have borne it with a smile; and now, for you, Dear God, I have died. Remember, Oh Lord, thy servant who has gone before us with a sign of faith and rest in the sleep of peace and to him, Oh Lord, and to all who rest in Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, a place of comfort, light and peace. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.”
