Virgil Clayton Coleman, Jr., 92 years of age, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away on August 19, 2018 with family at his side. Virgil was born to Virgil Clayton Coleman, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Jones Coleman on July 5, 1926 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Virgil was a part of the Greatest Generation having served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 stationed in the Pacific Arena. Virgil graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas. Virgil was married to Betty Halley in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on August 29, 1953. Virgil was a retired chemical engineer having worked for Phillips Petroleum in Sweeny, Texas and Dow Chemical Company of Freeport, Texas for 32 years. Virgil resided in in Lake Jackson for 62 years.
Virgil is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; parents, Virgil Sr. and Sarah; and brother, Andrew “Mac” McConnell Coleman.
He is survived by his children daughter, Lynn (Brian) Luckianow of Homewood, AL; sons, Gary (Clare) Coleman of Lake Jackson, and Lloyd (Joanie) Coleman of Houston. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Peter (Monique) Luckianow of Eunice, Louisiana; Hallie Luckianow of Homewood, AL; Harrison and Holden Coleman of Houston; great-granddaughter, Julianna Luckianow of Eunice, LA; and sister, Alice Coleman Richardson of Shreveport, LA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 102 Yaupon St. in Lake Jackson.
Serving as pallbearers are sons, Gary and Lloyd Coleman; grandsons, Peter Luckianow, Harrison and Holden Coleman; and son-in-law, Brian Luckianow. Honorary pallbearers are Roy McNeely, Ben Spivey, Don Williams, and Tom Bonorden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
