Bernard T. “Barney” O’Brien of Merritt Island, FL passed away Wednesday April 25, 2012. Barney was born and lived in New York City until he moved with his wife Josephine to Merritt Island, FL in 1992.
He is survived by his sister, Sr. Mary O’Brien, daughter, Mary (Shaun) O’Sullivan and sons, James (Beth) O’Brien, John (Eileen) O’Brien and Thomas (Martha) Obrien. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Barney was preceded in death by his loving wife Josephine.
Barney was a fun loving husband, father and friend. He enjoyed working, traveling and supporting veterans organizations. He served his country with distinction during the Korean War in 1951. He spent over four decades with the Consolidated Edison Company in N.Y.C.. He worked for several security firms in Port Canaveral providing security for Disney Cruise Ships.
Family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, Cocoa, FL. Burial will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Riverhead, N.Y.
