Catherine was first and foremost a devoted homemaker for the 55 years she was married to her husband, William R. Reeves, who predeceased her in 2007. They relocated the family from Camden, NJ to Merritt Island in 1957 when her husband began working at the Space Center. In raising four children, William R. Reeves Jr. (Laura) of Titusville; Cathy A. Klein of Suntree; Charles T. Reeves (Debbie) of Merritt Island; and James E. Reeves of Merritt Island, her role as a mother was a task she embraced lovingly and enthusiastically everyday of their young lives; she was the Soul of the family unit.
The same enthusiasm she had for her children, she willingly passed on to her grand and great-grandchildren throughout many years. Catherine was the number one fan at a variety of sporting events and recitals for three generations of children. She volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother; Girl Scout Leader, Little League and Lassie League, Daycare/Nursery Worker, and a faithful Sunday School Teacher (she deeply loved being around children). She enjoyed many hobbies, including being a masterful cook, ceramics, crochet, drawing and painting; making any visit to her home a fun adventure and passing her talents to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was blessed with ten grandchildren, Jenny Reeves; Carrie (John) Ordonez; Elizabeth (Charlie) Rosser, Ruthanne Reeves, Lauren (Jon) Stallbaum; Aimee (Brad) Rayfield; Willliam Reeves III, Caitlin (Andy) Whitehead; Janel (JR) Reeves; and Zachary Reeves.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy Eli Reeves; Brothers Charles Thompson and Gerald Thompson; Sister Anna Mae McKibbin; and Son-in-Law Robert P. Klein. She is survived by her beloved brother, Paul Thompson (Teresa) of New Jersey as well as 18 great-grandchildren (all being stars in her eye), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Catherine is most dearly remembered for the joy and happiness surrounding her always. She acknowledged the best in everyone or everything; making each day count as the blessing it was. She had a twinkle in her eye and a sweet smile to her final days. Mom, Granma, Great-Granma was the heart of the family and will be missed dearly.
The care and attention she received over the last 18 months from Ashley and everyone at Vitas Healthcare was exemplary, enabling her to enjoy the most of her days in comfort and happiness and in her own home surroundings.
Catherine was a member of First Baptist Church Merritt Island for over 65 years; recalling when it was a small wood-frame home/mission. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests consideration to the House of Hope, 140 Magnolia Ave., Merritt Island, FL 32952.
A private family graveside service is planned later in August.
