He was born on October 7, 1940, in Mapleton Depot, Pennsylvania, to parents, Marvin Estes and Georgia Lee Lambert. After the passing of his father Marvin, he moved to Puerto Rico with his mother, two brothers, James Lambert and William Fletcher “Billy”, and step father, William Fletcher, in 1948.
As a young child, he quickly embraced the Puerto Rican culture and became fluent in the Spanish language and Latin customs. He later graduated from James Robinson High School in 1962, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After high school, he joined the Air Force where he was assigned to a top-secret communications team that played a key role during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
Two years later, he met Frances Aviles in Puerto Rico and they were married in New York the following year. They moved to Rockledge, Florida in 1973, and he was later employed by the International Longshoreman’s Association out of Port Canaveral. After his 30-year career in Maritime, he retired from his role as ILA Local 1922 Operations Chief in 2006 due to chronic illness.
He loved worshipping his Lord each Sunday as a faithful member of Rockledge Christian Center. With God’s strength, he fought a good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the course, and his ship has finally sailed into Glory!
Donald was admired and loved by his large immediate and extended family. He is survived by Frances Aviles Lambert, his beloved wife of 49 years, his brother James Lambert, his six children, Nanette Tucker, Louis Filardo, Victoria Monterrubio, Samantha Alison, Jessica Lambert, and Donna Lambert, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Rockledge Christian Center, located at 2175 S. Fiske Boulevard in Rockledge. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am and Pastor Joseph Ronsisvalle will officiate the memorial service at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service, all are welcome to join the procession to the Interment Ceremony at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims that will begin at 2:30 pm.
