

Gerald Henry Cantin, known as “Gerry” to many and “Pépère” to all, passed away on November 29th, 2025 in Rockledge, Florida at the age of 96. Gerald was born on June 6th, 1929 in Lynn Massachusetts, the son of Geneva Leger Cantin, and Henry J. Cantin and brother to Rita and Edmund “Eddie” Cantin. Gerald joined the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served as a diesel mechanic until honorably discharged in 1952. Gerald graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and went on to work as a mechanical engineer for General Electric until retiring.
Gerald married the love of his life Jacqueline M. Rheault on September 3rd, 1955 and together they shared 70 years of marriage. They were devout Catholics and loved singing in the church choir, square dancing, traveling, and being together with family and friends.
Gerald was a proud veteran, avid golf player, and enjoyed many hobbies including sailing, tennis, and investing in the stock market. Above all, he was the best grandfather anyone could ask for, cherished by his family and beloved by all who knew him. He loved life deeply and supported everyone’s endeavors, whether cheering them on at a sports game or quietly donating to those in need. He lived every day to the fullest and remained as active as possible until his final days.
He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children, grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud of.
Gerald is survived by his children: Peter Cantin, Michael Cantin and his wife BethAnn, Patty Santos and her husband David, Paul Cantin and his partner Jennifer Ruetter, Donna Trantham, and godson Alan Gauthier.
Grandchildren: Craig Cantin and his wife Tiffany, Caitlin DeFeo and her husband Guy, Jessica Henry, Michael “Mikey” Cantin Jr. and his fiancé Sabrina, Dr. Lindsey Cantin, Garrett Santos and his wife Melissa, Ryan Santos and his wife Morgan, Travis Trantham and Brandi Trantham.
Great-grandchildren: Cylas and Finn Cantin, Grace and Liam DeFeo, Ezra Cantin and Michael Henry, Alice and Malcolm Cantin, Caleb and Ethan Santos, Marleigh and Blake Santos.
He is predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline M. Cantin, daughter-in-law Glenda Cantin, great-granddaughter Molly Andrews, and his brother and sister.
Gerald will be deeply missed and remembered with affection by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Memorial services will include a ceremony at Blessed Sacrament Church in Port St. John, FL, and a graveside service at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL, on April 23, 2026. A celebration of Gerald's life will take place on June 6th, 2026 in Massachusetts at a location to be announced.
