Our Jean passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022, at Viera Hospital in Melbourne, Florida at the age of 88 with family by her side. We believe she is now in the hands of Jesus. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Terry D. Greenfield, her family, and her many friends. Jean was a beautiful person and mother to three boys, Donald Terry Greenfield, James Michael Greenfield, (deceased) and Timothy Kyle Greenfield. Jean was grandmother to Monica Racheal Delaney, Jared Kyle Greenfield (deceased), Lauren Greenfield Messina, Jacob Michael Greenfield, Layne Jillian Greenfield, and great grandmother to Patrick William Delaney, Macie Kate Greenfield, and Emerson Layne Messina.
Jean was born in Pocahontas, Virginia on July 30, 1934, to Thomas M. and Garnett B. (Guynn) Murray. After attending local schools, she attended college and earned a bachelor’s degree as a teacher. After several years of teaching, she began working as an administrative assistant to the president of Pocahontas Coal Company. In 1956, she joined the Missile and Rockets Army program at Huntsville, Alabama where she served briefly as secretary to Dr. Wernher von Braun, Director of the Missile and Rockets Army program prior to her permanent job as secretary to Dr. Kurt Debus, Director of the Missile Firing laboratory at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
On December 23, 1957, Jean married Terry Greenfield and began establishing their family with Christian values. She was active in local church and community work, including garden club, flower arranging, quilting, and enjoyed cooking, developing specialty recipes, and preparing wonderful culinary dishes for her family and friends. Jean is deeply missed by her husband, family, and friends and associates. Although we had great plans for our elderly years, these are now gone but never forgotten. I love you, Jean Greenfield!
At Jean’s request, funeral services are not planned, and the immediate family will gather for a private grave-side burial ceremony at Brevard Memorial Home.
