

John Ulvert Hollingsworth, Sr., of Oviedo, Florida, sadly passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 88, with the loving care of hospice by his side. John was born in Virginia and made the move to Merritt Island, Florida, in 1956, where he started a new chapter of his life. In 1971, he began teaching as a professor at Tennessee Temple College, and later, he went on to have a successful career, retiring in 2010 from the Gilbane Company in Atlanta, Georgia.
John will always be lovingly remembered by his devoted, Shirley Hollingsworth, who was by his side in Oviedo; his daughter, Sherie Carbenia, of Orlando; his son, John Hollingsworth II, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his brother, Ted Hollingsworth, of Mims, Florida. He is also survived by his four wonderful grandchildren, Michael Carbenia of Orlando, Ashley Carbenia of Orlando, Tiffany Moffitt of North Carolina, and John E. Hollingsworth of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
In addition, John leaves behind seven great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Tyler Vert, Eliana and Soren Carbenia, Colton King, Trenton and Everett Grove, and Luke Hollingsworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his memory.
A visitation for John will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, located at 1360 N Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL 32953. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service will follow at Brevard Memorial Park, 301 N Cocoa Blvd, Cocoa, FL 32922, from 3:00 PM to 3:15 PM.
