She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jim Davis, her parents Michael and Leola Williams, her sisters Anne Sherrill, Frances Crawford, Lucy Williams, Sue Williams, Sallie Norris, and her daughter-in-law Brenda Davis.
Mary is survived by her five children, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many loving relatives.
Mary was born and raised in Dunn, North Carolina, the second oldest of ten children. She graduated from Dunn High School and continued advanced education at Sacred Heart College Charlotte, NC and became a nurse. She met her husband Jim while in Charlotte, and they made their home there for a few years, then moved to Brevard County in 1966. Mary was a stay-at-home Mom for a few years and then returned to her nursing career for another twenty-five years until her retirement from Wuesthoff Hospital in 1996.
We mourn her passing and remember her as a gentle, kind and quiet person with many interests, and hobbies. She played the piano, was a talented seamstress, delighted in teaching others, solving puzzles, playing games and had a healthy appetite for reading. A loving mother, Mary was a remarkable cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She was revered by the neighborhood kids and known as the “popsicle lady” for years, an endeavor that began with helping her son with his lemonade stand. She was fond of a group of retired nurses and looked forward to their luncheons in her retirement. She had a servant heart and always sought to help others – anything from taking a neighbor to the grocery store to making cheerleading uniforms and baked goods for fundraisers.
