On Monday, November 16, 2020, at the age of 85, Mary Ann Lahr-Wetz entered the best chapter of her life and is now with her loving Savior. She was born in Sarasota, FL on November 22, 1934 to Perry and Mary Newman. She attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham, where she studied dental hygiene. After graduation she returned to Sarasota where she met and married her loving husband of 50 years, Niels L. Lahr. After they were married in 1957, they moved to Rockledge, FL, where they raised their four daughters, retired and enjoyed traveling together until Niels’ passing in 2007. After moving to Ocala to be near two of her daughters, she met and married James E. Wetz of Ocala, FL in December of 2009. They enjoyed each other’s companionship and shared many laughs together over the past 11 years.
Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was loved greatly. She had a passion and love for people and the ability to convey how important they were to her and to Jesus. She listened well, empathized greatly and encouraged often. She was a master at creating a welcoming home where there was always enough food to share and always a place at the table, no notice needed. She was kind and gracious and oh so strong! The joy of the Lord was truly her strength. Whether the battle was cancer or the loss of a loved one, she did it with grace and dignity.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Niels L. Lahr. She is survived by her second husband, James E. Wetz, Ocala, FL; four daughters, Sharon (James) Cabe, Kernersville, NC, Susan (Kent) Poimboeuf, Ocala, FL, Kelly (Brian) Milby, Huntsville, AL, Shanna (Barry) Ginn, Ocala, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Jourdan (Corey) Ball and Kyle Cabe, Nicholas, Noah, Alaina and Kaley Poimboeuf, Cole and Caitlin Milby and Madeline (Caleb) Lee, Meredith, Melina, Miriam and Ellie Ginn; and one great-grandson, Maxwell Ball.
