

Virginia Lewis Clendinen went to be with her Lord on Saturday January 10, 2015. Virginia was born in Montgomery Alabama on September 21, 1925, to Albert and Lovdie Lewis. She spent her childhood in Montgomery, Midway and Eastman, Georgia where she graduated high school. Virginia graduated Huntington College in Montgomery with degrees in English and Sociology.
After college, Virginia taught high school for two years. She then moved to Houston, Texas where she worked for two years at the YWCA. Here she decided to go into social work. She then attended and received a master’s degree at Western Reserve School of Social Work in Cleveland, Ohio.
While traveling on a train, she met Norman Clendinen who was teaching ROTC at Ohio State. They were married in 1952. They had four boys and moved to a historic home on the Indian River lagoon in Cocoa, Florida in 1962 after Norman retired from the Air Force. Both Virginia and Norman were lifelong members at First United Methodist Church in Cocoa.
Virginia is survived by her son Clay and daughter-in-law Jolaine; Son Charlie; son Craig and daughter-in-law Cayolyne; daughter-in-law Jennifer: grandchildren Brian, Darla, Chad, Natalee, Chaz, Daniel, Amanda, Adam, Anissa, Ariana and many nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman, son Alan, brother Albert and sister Betty.
Visitation will be held 5-8 PM on Thursday 1/15/15 at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Cocoa 3 PM on Friday 1/16/15. Entombment will follow at Brevard Memorial Park.
