

Carlton Nemiah Hill was born in LaGrange, North Carolina in an area known as “Pot Neck” on September 12, 1946. His wonderful parents were Nemiah and Bessie Harris Hill who gave Carlton six other siblings: Edna Williams (Al), Annie Wilma Washington (Elijah), Eddie (Joann), Bertha Carol (Bill), Nannie Doris Hill-Midgette (George) and Curtis Ray (Marsha).
Carlton attended Banks Elementary School. He graduated from Frink High School in 1966. Carlton was a happy man to become an “Aggie” at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina where he majored in Building Technology, he continued to hone and further develop his natural gifts as an excellent craftsman.
Carlton was drafted into the United States Army in 1969. He received an award as an NDSM Marksman (M-14) and he received an honorable discharge. Carlton began his career at General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville, GA in 1970, where he was employed until 1989.
Later, he began a home rehab and renovation business, specializing in drywall installation and construction. He was well versed and skilled in many disciplines in building and home repairs. He approached each project with great detail and completed each job with precision and expert craftsmanship. The level of customer satisfaction Carlton delivered was evident in the continuous referrals and customers who kept in touch with him through the years, rendering advertising unnecessary. Working with his amazing hands was his passion and a true labor of love.
On July 8, 1967, Carlton married the love his life and soulmate, Brenda Grant after their courtship of two years. Together, their union brought forth six beautiful children, of which five were nurtured to adulthood. Their first son, Carlton Nemiah Hill, Jr. transitioned as an infant. Later, Brenda gave birth to twins Carlton Redding Hill, Kimberly Hill Murdaugh (Kev). Their family continued to grow with Ronrico Hill, Tamara Hill, who transitioned in November 2020 and Howard M. Hill (Ruthie) who completed the Hill clan AKA “The Georgia Crowd”.
Carlton and Brenda were delighted to welcome 9 grandchildren (Xavier, Cameron, Lawrence, Nemiah, Laurena, Ariana, Isaiah, Zach and Aniya) and 3 great grandchildren (Adonis, Huey and Zarianah).
In 1970, Carlton and Brenda relocated to Atlanta, GA where they became faithful members of Dixie Hills First Baptist Church where the family was warmly received and Carlton was ordained as a Deacon. He also participated in the male chorus, he loved attending the practices and singing. Carlton also enjoyed classic cars, he fancied himself as a sous chef and he loved traveling – he was a true road warrior who was always ready for a road trip whether around Georgia or across the country.
Carlton was a man of honor, integrity, strength and character grounded by a foundation and dedication to God. He had a deep and infinite love for family. He will be remembered for his unwavering support, his warm spiritual presence and the outstanding example he set for all who knew him.
His memory will live on through his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former co-workers who had the privilege of knowing this exceptional man.
Carlton exuded humility and he was the epitome of goodness. He was a true inspiration to all who knew him, and he will be missed beyond measure, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of his family forever and he will forever be cherished.
Carlton’s spirit will continue to guide us, always remembered as a remarkable husband, father and man. His light, love and impact will be everlasting.
