Bolac Joseph Chmura, 93, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home in College Station, Texas. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 1, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Funeral Home in College Station with Reverend Ryan Higdon Officiating. Interment will be in College Station Cemetery.
Bolac was born December 21, 1922 in Bondsville, Massachusetts to Victoria Cwieka and Peter Chmura. He joined the United States Navy on December 6, 1940 serving on an Aircraft Carrier in the South Pacific during World War II, and during the Korean War. He also served in the Navy on Aircraft Patrol just prior to the Vietnam War. While stationed at the Naval base in Corpus Christi, Texas, Bolac met Willetta Lansford and they were married on February 24, 1943 in Sinton, Texas. After serving more than 21 years in the U.S. Navy, Bolac retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He and his family eventually moved to College Station where he became a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Willetta Lansford Chmura, and two daughters, Cynthia Luckenbach and Victoria Chmura.
He is survived by two grandsons, Christopher Luckenbach and his wife Marsie, and Justin Luckenbach and his wife Lora; two greatgrandchildren, Zachary and Emma Luckenbach; and neighbor and good friend Ella Trumpfeller, whom the family extends special thanks and appreciation for her continued care and support of their grandfather.
Chris Luckenbach spoke of his granddad as a proud Navy Veteran, serving honorably during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Many of us have been highly entertained listening to Granddad’s Navy stories and jokes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was generous to a fault. Although he did without much during his lifetime, he was always eager to help someone in need. The people he has taken care of and expected nothing in return are too numerous to name. Granddad was the son of immigrants who appreciated the opportunities he had. He loved watching baseball, particularly the Boston Red Sox. While his survivors grieve, we are comforted by the fact that granddad has joined his girls once again.
The family has requested that memorials be made to a Veteran’s support group of your choice.
