David W. Jacobson

David William Jacobson was born on April 20, 1978 to Jack and Phyllis Jacobson in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was the oldest of three children, all of whom were born in three and a half years. They all kept their parents busy but David stood out in his own way. He was artistic, loved to learn and friendly to everyone. Bright and intelligent, learning to read before kindergarten, he loved reading about dinosaurs and could name off all the different kinds. He was not a sports person but loved physical activities and grew to love the disciplines of martial arts.

Dave’s love of learning continued after his elementary and high school education, which culminated in 1996, graduating from Pipestone High School. He loved to cook and went to school for a year to learn more about the finer points. He then switched to art school, hoping to make a career of it. Eventually he decided to get his associates degree and move on into the medical field, where he went on to become an occupational therapist assistant. It was during this time in art school that he met his wife, Lorelie Bonon, from the Philippines, online.

David once asked me if it would matter if he married someone from a different culture. My answer was, “As long as you love each other and she is good to you, I would love her.” They were friends on the internet for three years before things took a turn romantically. Their story was truly a God story. Both being Christians, Lori challenged God to show her who to marry and He clearly showed her it was David long before David landed on those Philippine shores! Marrying on June 4th, 2007, in the Philippines,, it took two years to get her to the United States, but Dave persevered through all the red tape and she joined him in November, 2009. After getting his degree as an occupational therapist they headed south to start their life in Texas in 2010. They moved several times the first few years but ended up in College Station, where they put down roots for the last 6 years. David and Lori were adventurers, travelers and dreamers, and although they had a few bumps along the way learned to lean on each other. They were joyful when they became parents to Levi and their joy was made complete on March 3, 2020, when Hannah Abbiah Jacobson was born. He was one proud father! She was the apple of daddy's eye. They were in the process of bringing Levi here from the Philippines.

David had a number of friends over the years with whom he shared his interests and time. He was loyal to his friends, a good listener and a helping hand when called upon. He knew people from every walk of life, from the lowest to the highest, treating them all the same. He was a giver. He would cook and bring a meal to a neighbor or take homeless in and feed them. He never was good at saving his money but what he had he shared. He helped to take care of orphans in several countries because he couldn't stand to see children hurting. He was so generous to those in this world. He will be missed by many.

David passed away early Sunday morning, September 26, 2021, after a valiant fight with covid. He is survived by his wife, Lorelie; daughter, Hannah; son Levi; parents, Jack and Phyllis Jacobson of Pipestone, MN; sister, Julie (Matthew) Maloney, Alex and Jay, St. Paul, MN; and brother, Paul Jacobson, Marshall, MN; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
