Donald Leroy Griffith Sr.

Donald Leroy Griffith, Sr., 47, of Navasota, passed away July 7, 2016 at his home in Navasota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Monday, July 18th at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 9677 Highway 6, Navasota, TX 77868. Interment will be 2:15 PM, Monday, July 18th at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Don was born January 4, 1969 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Charles and Juanita Griffith. He grew up in Flint and was a graduate of Elizabeth Johnson Memorial High School. Don joined the Navy in 1988 and served as a Sonar Tech. He later joined the Army in 2006 and was an Aircraft Fuel Handler with 92F, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. While in the Navy, Don served in Desert Storm, and with the Army served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Decorations include the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy/Marine Combat Action Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd), Southeast Asia Service Medal W/3 Bronze Stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal W/2 Campaign Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Marksmanship Badge W/Rifle Bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge W/Driver-Wheeled Vehicle. He was medically retired in 2015. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, Earl Graham Post, 159 in Bryan.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Patricia Griffith, two sons, Donald Leroy Griffith, II and Michael Anthony Griffith, all of Navasota; brother, Daniel Edward Griffith & his wife Sara of Boise, ID; sister, Katherine Ann Denton of Flint, MI; mother-in-law, Mabel Hazelrigg of Centralia, WA; brother-in-law, John Paul Hazelrigg of Centralia, WA; one niece Katherine Sue Denton; one nephew, Brandon Denton; and numerous other family and friends.
