

Ethan was born on February 6, 1921 in Brilliant, Alabama to Anna and Filo Holt. He graduated from Auburn University and received a masters and PhD from Purdue University. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II as an infantry officer in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star for "bravery under fire beyond the call of duty." Ethan married Jean Jordan, the "love of his life" in June 1944 before being shipped off to fight in WWII. They moved to College Station in 1948 when Ethan joined Texas A&M University in graduate teaching and research. He was a member of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop and Science Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was Emeritus Professor of Agronomy and received many awards in his field. He retired from Texas A&M after 36 years of service.
Ethan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene, and by his beloved wife, Jean.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Randy Decker of College Station, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Holt of Bryan, two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Myrtle Self of Winfield, Alabama, Florette Tyler of Richmond, Virginia, Walter Logan of Haleyville, Alabama and Pat Shelby of Centerpoint, Alabama, and five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Ethan Holt will be remembered for his devotion to family and Christian principles, for his professional accomplishments, and for his loyalty to family, friends, and co-workers.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, September 11, 2015 at A&M Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to the A&M Church of Christ.
