Ethel Aleta Bakenhus

Aleta was born on March 12, 1938 in Shiro, Texas. At 14 she met the love of her life, Luther Bakenhus, and married on November 6th, 1954. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston. She was a proud homemaker and raised four children by being involved in their every event and providing for all their needs. In addition, she was a charter member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Houston. She served her Lord and Savior in many activities at church from LWML, Braille Ministries, crocheting prayer blankets/booties for children and adults, and singing in the choir.

Aleta was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Luther Bakenhus; parents Olen and Noma Curry; and brothers Audley Curry and Otis Thompson.

She is survived by daughters Rhonda Reed and husband Jeff, Beverly Lilie and husband Kenton; sons Douglas Bakenhus and wife Dennette, and Bart Bakenhus; grandsons, Miles and Carl Bakenhus, Colton Lilie and wife Emily, and Weston Lilie; step-grandchildren Nicole Kramer and husband Jon, Danielle McDermott and husband Drake, Dalton McDermott and wife Brittany; step-great-grandchildren Haelyn and Tucker McDermott; brother Max Curry and wife Janet; sister Sandra Sims and husband Calvin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Kenneth Bakenhus and wife Marilyn, Fred Bakenhus and wife Irma; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1590 Sebesta Road, College Station, Texas. Celebration of Life service follows at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon afterward. Interment will be on Saturday, December 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy., Houston, Texas. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Miles and Carl Bakenhus, Colton and Weston Lilie, and nephews Alan Curry, and Fred and Robert Bakenhus. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Sims, Dalton McDermott, and Glenn, Shane, and Kane Thompson.
