Felix was a very kind, outgoing man who never met a stranger. Often recognized around town as “Mr. T”, he was extremely ambitious and sought to provide the best opportunities for his family. He always enjoyed a good meal, traveling, and carrying on conversations with his loved ones.
After graduating high school in Navasota, Felix hitched a ride to Houston with only 37 cents in his pocket looking to find himself a career. Shortly after arriving in town he began working for Ninfa Laurenzo at the Original Ninfa’s Tortilla Factory. He went on to work at a local meat market, but it wasn’t long before he caught the attention of one of the regular customers for his strong work ethic. He was offered a position at Schuman Auto Supply by the owner Jake Schuman. Over the years Jake was not only Felix's boss, but a mentor and dear friend. While working with Mr. Schuman Felix began to attend Massey Business College. This is where he would meet the love of his life, Gloria.
In 1958, Gloria and Felix married. Only a few years into their marriage Felix got the opportunity to work internationally, traveling from Washington DC to Mexico City for Schuman Auto Supply. He worked to allow new automotive parts to be exported into Mexico for the very first time. Felix made many connections and friends throughout this time all over North America, and cherished the 20+ years he spent as a Salesman and Manager at Schuman Auto Supply.
In the early 1970s, he also worked with his Brother, George (Greg), to open El Gallo Mexican Restaurant in Houston. This opened many doors for both him and his brother in the industry as they both went on to open many more restaurants. As Felix’s children grew older, an opportunity arose to purchase his own Auto Parts Store in Bryan-College Station and so the family made the decision to make the move and be closer to his hometown.
Throughout his life Felix created many memories with his friends and family at each of his businesses, and worked to help those in need in his community. After moving to Bryan-College Station, Felix owned many businesses; Joe Faulk Auto Parts, Casa Torres and El Comal Mexican Restaurant, and KBMA 99.5 La Fabulosa Tejano Radio Station. He also loved a good real estate deal when it would come along. There was never a time when Felix wasn’t involved in any business ventures.
Felix was generous not only with his money, but with his love and affection for people. To his family he was more than a father and grandfather, he was a best friend, role model and teacher. He touched the lives of so many people over the years. He will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.
Felix was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Gloria, his parents and many of his fifteen siblings. He is survived by his children; Laura (Mark), Anna (Bubba), and Felix Jr (Cynthia), and grandchildren; Mark, Joseph, Justin, Jarred and Morgan. He is also survived by his sisters; Grace and Ruth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, close relatives and many friends.
Felix’s family would like to thank his doctors and nurses over the last few weeks, and the many friends and family who visited him during his illness.
A visitation and recitation of holy rosary for Felix will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
