The family of Gary Max Gaither, 71, of College Station, have announced his passing on February 18, 2023, after suffering from a long illness. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas and growing up in Kingsville, he attended HM King High in Kingsville, Class of 1971, and immediately after, served in the US Air Force working in reconnaissance photography. Upon being honorably discharged, he pursued a career in Houston, in commercial art. Later, after settling in College Station, he continued to work professionally in photography and graphic design.
He was a student of popular music with an affinity for Delta blues, classic and modern rock as well as contemporary adult easy listening. Taking it a step further he took up guitar late in life teaching himself how to play. An avid writer, artist, and reader, he enjoyed expressing himself in drawing, composing poetry, song lyrics and writing down thoughts as he saw fit as well as the occasional letter to the editor. His strong beliefs and views helped him become a strong debater, something he enjoyed doing with family and friends. His strong Christian faith has helped us at this time, and he will be greatly missed by all that new him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Max C. Gaither and Janet “Tootsie” Gaither formally of Kingsville. Survivors include his sister, Barbara D Gaither of Kerrville; his brothers, Galen L. Gaither and wife Terry of College Station, and Garnet D. Gaither of Harlingen.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donation be made to: Alexander Cemetery Association, 5770 Alexander Rd., Bryan, Texas 77808
