Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12 at St. Francis Episcopal Church in College Station. Burial will be Friday at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Helen was born August 26, 1930 in Stith, Texas to Giles and Frances (Collins) Thompson. She was a 1947 graduate of Abilene High School and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1951. She was a charter member of Briarcrest Women’s Golf Association, a volunteer Pink Lady, a walking scorer for the Houston Open Golf Tournament and volunteered at the Girls’ Club.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Campbell; brother, Tommy Thompson; and her parents.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Tate of Denton; sisters-in-law, Linda Thompson of Abilene and Elaine Campbell of Corpus Christi; nephews and nieces, Nancy Campbell Mendel of Corpus Christi, Steve Thompson of Palatine, IL, Sharon Thompson Cochran of Abilene, Carl and Caren Tate of Denton; as well as several great-nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind her beloved neighbors, Chris and Sheryl Kirk; her friend, Richard Wilson and family; and her many well-loved “birthday lunch” friends.
