Iris was born August 15, 1936 in Houston, Texas to Roy and Annie Fry. She graduated from Cyfair High School in 1954. She married Robert E. Schlechte (Bob) on August 7, 1957 at Rose Hill Methodist Church.
During her life, Iris wore many hats and participated in many activities. She was a wife, a mother, a Licensed Vocational nurse, and a Westinghouse production floor employee among many other things.
Iris always supported her children in their many activities while they were growing up. She was a Scout den mother, a band parent, a PTA officer, and a school room parent. She supported Bob in his many endeavors, especially his musical ones. She traveled with him to most of his polka band’s gigs and she looked forward to attending Kolache Festival each year with him Through out her life, she was active in church wherever she and Bob lived, serving as a church camp counselor, teaching confirmation, volunteering for Vacation Bible School, and traveling on a hospital mission trip to Honduras. She was a gifted seamstress and she also enjoyed gardening, bowling, dancing, and wine tasting. But what she loved, above all else, was being together with family.
Iris is predeceased by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a daughter-in-law, a grandson-in law, a great-grandchild, and her beloved husband of 49 years, Bob, as well as other family and friends who were dear to her and have gone ahead as saints to pave the way for her homecoming. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and John Dufour, her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Carol Schlechte, her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cathleen Schlechte, her grandsons, Jared and Darren Dufour, Michael Weisenberger, and Nicholas Schlechte and wife Shelby, granddaughter, Reyne Huckaby and husband Chris, grandsons, Joshua Hudson and Matthew Hudson and wife Alicia, granddaughter, Lacey Black, and an abundance of great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
