

He was born July 8, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Frank (Buster) and Dorothy (Fahrni) Mathis. He was a graduate of Taft High School in Taft, Texas. He married Betty Mayfield on February 23, 1963 in Sinton, Texas and to this union two children were born. His wife preceded him in death in 2001. He later married Faye Lane on June 7, 2008. He spent his working years and retired from the automobile service industry. Then in his retirement years he and Faye worked for the Corp. of Engineers and lived as full time RVer’s.
Jack had an awesome sense of humor and a ready smile for everyone, always ready to eat, to travel and was known to his family as a fashion icon. His loved ones could not have had a better father, brother, grandfather, husband, stepfather or friend and will forever be in their heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Dorothy; wife, Betty; father-in- law and mother-in-law, John and Laura Mayfield; brother-in-law, Mickey Mayfield; and nephew, Eddie Rider.
He is survived by his wife Faye of Hempstead; his children, Laura (Tim) Howard of College Station, Mike (Diana) Mathis of Caldwell; step-children, Justin Lane and Shelly Lane of Hempstead; his sister, Marie (Bob) VanVolkenburg of Bryan; eight grandchildren, Misty (Tommy) Lee of Deanville, Donnie (Leah) Vernon of Bryan, Brandon (Ashlee) Telschow of Deanville, Garrison (Jennifer) Mathis of Houston, Jonathan (Melissa) Vernon of Bryan, Coby (Michael) Pedry of Casper, WY, Jared Mathis of Deanville, TJ (Kaitlin) Howard of Conroe; step-grandchild, Claire Lane of Hempstead; sister-in-law, LouAnn Mayfield of Conroe; nephews, Howard Rider and Chris (April) Mayfield; a niece, Kim Mayfield; seventeen (and 1/2) great-grandchildren and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He lived his life his own way.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station, Texas from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 15, 2021.
Funeral Service will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station on Saturday, October 16, at 2:00 PM. Following the services, interment will be at College Station City Cemetery, 2530 Texas Ave. S, College Station, Texas.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held in the Century Room at Wyndham Garden Hotel, 2829 Texas Avenue S. College Station, following the graveside services. (located next to the Memorial Funeral Chapel).
