Jimmy was born in Houston, TX on April 21, 1943 to Helen Sidwell Cutlip and Herbert Rader Cutlip. Jimmy lived in Houston until August 2008, when he moved to Golden Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (formerly Sheridan) in Navasota, TX to be closer to family. Jimmy was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Houston, which later was renamed Grace Presbyterian Church and moved to west Houston. He enjoyed singing at church and later in life was known to especially sing with fervor. Jimmy was employed by Lewis and Coker (later Rice Epicurean) grocery store for 38 years. Jimmy was an avid Houston professional sports fan, who grew-up listening to the Astros on the radio and later watching them on TV. He loved the Oilers too, but had no use for them when they changed their name and moved to Tennessee. Eventually, he converted to being a Texans fan. Later in life, Jimmy became a Bingo aficionado and enjoyed going on field trips with his Golden Creek group. The man loved a good meal, Hershey bars and Dr. Pepper, talking sports, attending Astros or Oilers home games, calling family on the phone, reading the newspaper, flirting with his Golden Creek caregivers and introducing them to his family, and smiling and joking around. He could easily bring joy to others and frequently did. Among many small blessings along the way, Jimmy taught a teenaged niece how to bowl and how to drive a stick-shift car in his Volkswagen Beetle.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Herbert Cutlip; sister, Connie Cutlip Gerdes; brother, Donald Cutlip; and twin brother, Joseph Cutlip. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Cutlip; sister-in-law, Jackie Cutlip; and numerous nieces & nephews and their families.
Jimmy’s family is thankful for his family at Golden Creek, who were incredible to him since he moved there from Houston. The staff of CHI St. Joseph-College Station and Hospice Brazos Valley were exceedingly kind and nurturing over the last days of Jimmy’s life. A remembrance celebration is scheduled at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 16th at Golden Creek (2100 Dove Crossing Lane, Navasota, TX 77868).
