

Joyce Newsom Price, 91, wife, mother, teacher, and friend passed away on November 23, 2010 at home surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, November 28, at Tubbs Cemetery in Leon County.
She was born on June 7, 1919 in Marquez, Texas and was the fourth child of Henry Franklin Newsom and Lillian Vestal Newsom. She taught for 40 years in West Mountain, Price, Longview, and for 30 years taught Texas History in the Bryan I.S.D.- initially at Lamar Junior High and from 1959 to 1985 at Anson Jones Junior High. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' sorority and served on the state textbook review committee in 1977. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas honored her as an outstanding Texas History
teacher.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Manning Price; her sisters, Mava Newsom Curry, Ila Newsom Weyrich, and Myrle Newsom Mueller; her brother, Truman Vestal
Newsom; and grandson Richard Manning Price.
She is survived by William F. Price and wife Nancy, Richard M. Price and wife Velda, and Charles E. Price and wife Charlene; grandchildren, Alison Price Allen, Angela Price Link, Benjamin Henry Price, Kellous Price, Tracy Price Staats, Christine Price Muniz, and Craig Price; nephews, James Newsom, Steven Mueller, and Don Linnen; numerous great-grandchildren; and close friend Mrs. Mary Owen Hanna.
