Mrs. Schwartz, daughter to August and Frances Matula, was born on December 3, 1919 in Halletsville, Texas. In 1936 she graduated from high school in the small Czech community of Velehrad. She was employed as governess and housekeeper to the Bernard family in Houston. She married Charles Schwartz in 1954. The young couple lived in College Station, Texas where Charles worked at Bryan Air Force Base. They had a daughter, Charlotte Judith, in 1957. The next year they moved to Mobile, Alabama where Charles was stationed at Brookley AFB for seven years. A third transfer took them to Kelly AFB in San Antonio. Judy was active in the V.F.W. Women’s auxiliary and the Sons of Hermann. She taught Sunday school and looked after the children in the nursery of Jefferson United Methodist Church. After a fight with breast cancer in 1970, she became a Reach to Recovery volunteer for the National Cancer Society. Charles and Judy retired to Bryan, Texas where they continued their involvement in the V.F.W, Sons of Hermann, and American Legion. They were members of First United Methodist Church where Judy once again volunteered in the nursery. They also enjoyed traveling around Texas visiting with relatives.
Judy was devoted to her family and friends. She was a great cook, avid gardener, and was known for her hospitality. Her compassion for all living creatures whether they be plants, animals, children, the elderly or the infirmed led her to give of her time in many capacities. She also loved dancing, playing bingo, cheering on her Fightin’ Texas Aggies, and beating the socks off of any domino opponent!

Aylor; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Evelyn Matula; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Renee Schwartz; two grandchildren Caroline and Sr. Robyn Aanstoos, and many nieces and nephews.
