Marcell Smith

Marcell L. Smith, 79, of College Station Passed away March 3, 2016 at the College Station Medical Center. The family will receive friends, Monday, March 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. A funeral service is scheduled 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 8th at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Interment will follow in the Aggie Field of Honor.

Marcell was born July 2, 1936 in Brady, Texas, the daughter of Jesse Marion and Irene Lane Lemon. Growing up, she played volleyball in high school and continued to play in ladies and mixed leagues until a few years ago. Marcell married Jerry A. Smith in 1956, while he was enrolled at Texas A&M and earned her PHT (Put Hubby Through.) After Jerry graduated, they moved back to west Texas and returned to Aggieland to enjoy their retirement years. She was an avid Aggie fan, and enjoyed watching and pulling for the Aggies in all sports. Mrs. Smith was an animal lover, especially her beloved dog Ridge. Her greatest love was her family, and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church - College Station and the Cornerstone Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Jerry; four children, Tobe Smith, Marcy Nelson, April Whitaker & her husband Kerry, and Charity Smith; eight grandchildren, Greg Smith, Ashley Chaffin, Alexis Hearnsberger, Aimee Chaffin, Amber Chaffin, Jeremy Nelson, Joseph Nelson, and James Nelson; four step-grandchildren, Kevin Whitaker, Kristy Davis, Lauren Rogers, and Dylan Whitaker; and ten great grandchildren.
