Marland was born December 8, 1933 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Jake and LaFayetta Brunner. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1955, obtaining the rank of AC/1. During her time in the Air Force, she received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, WAF Award, and finally an Honorable Discharge. Marland earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from her combined credits at UCLA and University of Phoenix. She received an MBA from the University of Phoenix, in 1988. Marland retired as a Power Services Consultant with the L.A. Department of Water & Power after more than 33 years of service to the citizens of Los Angeles. She enjoyed acting, singing, and dancing with the Department of Water & Power Choraliers and having a cameo appearance in the Power Rangers series. After moving to College Station in 1996, she became a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she served as a soloist at weddings and other church functions.
Marland was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Clemens, Sr., in 1987; a daughter, Celeste
Clemens; and a brother, Ronald S. Brunner. Survivors include her two children; a son, Clyde W. Clemens, Jr.; daughter, Camille W. Clemens; four grandchildren, Kandice L. Horsey, Julien W. Clayton, A. J. Gomez, and Joa Gomez; one greatgrandson, Noah J. Stoker; two sisters, Charlotte L. Pruitt, and Jean Pruitt Newby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
