She graduated from Port Neches High School in 1949 and went on to attend Lamar University before transferring to the University of Texas where she earned her undergraduate degree in English. While at UT, she worked for a travel agency, giving her the opportunity to journey to foreign places.
After wedding the love of her life in 1957, she spent the first part of her married life as a devoted housewife and mother of two. In 1973, she took a job with the College Station Independent School District as a secretary. Later, she went back to school to work on an accounting degree and was promoted to a bookkeeping position for CSISD. She retired in 1992 after twenty-two years of service, so she could devote her time to family.
Driven by a passion to donate time and talent, she was involved in several organizations. She served as a Girl Scout leader for Troop 100 from 1965 to 1973. She was a devout member of the A&M United Methodist Church, even sharing her passion for computers with other senior members by providing help sessions where she donated the proceeds back to the church.
As a member of the Texas Research Ramblers Genealogical Society, she helped organize workshops to help others with their family research. Through her work with the Ramblers, she spent hours discovering her own family roots, creating sixty three-inch binders full of genealogical information on her ancestors and that of her husband’s. In 2002, she was accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to travel, making several European trips, as well as trips to visit distant cousins scattered throughout North America which she’d discovered through her genealogy efforts. She was also a member of the Brazos Valley Schools Retired Personnel and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees group. In addition, Sue belonged to a local couple’s bridge club. She will be remembered always for her generous heart.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John H. Foy, a brother, Jim Swann and her parents, James and Alyce Swann.
Sue is survived by her two children, Jami Sue Bevans and her husband, Cran Bevans, Jr. of College Station, TX and Jack Foy and his wife, Kathy Foy of Round Rock, TX; three grandchildren, Cran (Trey) Bevans and his wife Emily Bevans of Bryan, TX, Casey Bevans March and her husband, Michael March or Houston, TX and Jonathan Foy of Round Rock, TX; one great grandchild, Freya Bevans of Bryan, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the A&M United Methodist Church, 417 University Drive, College Station, TX 77845.
