Facility. After a long battle with Cancer, with her husband, mom, dad, daughter, and best friend, Amanda by her side to ensure she did not cross in to heaven alone. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 6, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station. Valerie was born September 27, 1975 in Falfurrias, Texas to Samuel Benavides and Laura Starr. She enjoyed spending her time dancing and taking countless photos. Valerie loved being outdoors and was a “tomboy” at heart, but rest assured she could clean up like an amazing super model. She also focused heavily on her firefighting and E.M.T. career to help others in need to be able to exhibit her selfless service to others. Valerie was the type of person who would give the shirt off her back and the last penny in pocket if needed. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, soon-to-be grandmother, avid Yankee fan and a New York Giants fan due to her husband being a fan and being from New
York. Valerie will be deeply missed by countless family and friends now that she is an angel amongst us. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Irvin L. Starr, Sr. and Zoila R. Starr. Survivors include her husband, Sgt. Joseph Simpson
of Albany, N.Y.; children, Azely and her husband Jesse Ortiz, Jr.; Jake Estrada and Trinity Estrada, all of Rockport, Darrien Simpson and Devon Simpson both of College Station; parents, Samuel and his wife, Lucinda Benavides, of Rockport
and Laura Starr of College Station; sister, Crystal & husband, James Fannin, of Caldwell; and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. In lieu of flowers donations to assist in covering the countless medical expenses accrued may be made payable to Joseph Simpson in Valerie Benavides- Simpson’s honor; any remaining donations will go toward her children’s college funds.
