Becky Sue Thrasher Banks went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Dallas, Texas surrounded by her family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife and the best mom ever. She was also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and a friend to all who knew and loved her.
Becky was born on January 7, 1948, in Dallas, Texas to Henry (Jack) and Hattie (Florence) Thrasher. She grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas and graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in 1966.
Most of Becky’s life revolved around her family. A stay-at-home mom, she raised her three boys in the town of Keller, a small town at that time, surrounded by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her days were filled with simple joys- from preparing delicious meals that brought the family together, to being involved in her kid’s school activities and their many sports. She was active in sports too.
Becky’s incredible style was evident in the way she dressed, decorated her house, and kept her yard. She inherited the green thumb from her parents and grandparents. Her yard was filed with beautiful flowers and plants making her home an oasis. She especially loved the holidays and having all the family come back home for a massive feast which took days to prepare. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She transformed her house into a wonderland with multiple beautifully decorated trees. Her snowman collection would make Santa blush.
Becky was a selfless giver to her family and friends. She also had a heart for strangers in need. In high school, she volunteered as a candy striper at Methodist hospital in Dallas and gave to various charitable organizations throughout her life. One of her favorites was the Salvation Army’s angel tree. Here her love for helping others less fortunate and her love for shopping could come together for a good cause.
Becky loved to travel and made a lifetime of memories on trips with family and friends. Her trips took her to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Hawaii, and all throughout the U.S. As a lover of nature and wildlife, she loved to spend time with her husband Dennis at the ranch in Rising Star, Texas. There she could sit on the porch and watch as deer, turkeys, birds, and other wildlife roamed about. Since childhood, she had a profound love for animals, especially dogs. The only dogs she would adopt were either abandoned strays or rescues. Any dog that was Becky’s was in doggie heaven receiving better care than most humans.
Always a woman of faith, Becky had taught Sunday school at Mt. Gilead church in Keller in the early 1970’s and attended Fellowship Church in Grapevine with her son Mark. Her hope and trust in the Lord were an inspiration to her family during the different seasons of our lives.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Ground; her sons Mark Brown, Robby Banks (and wife, Dottie) and Craig Banks (and wife, Amy). Grandchildren, Lauren (and husband Mitch), Michael (and wife Andera), Andrew and was Mamaw to great-grandchildren, Bailee, and Stetson. Brother, Jack (and his wife Linda). Niece and nephew, Tracy, and Spencer (and wife, Jennifer).
Aunts, Mossie, and Maxine and many cousins, extended family, friends, and her beloved dog Bogie.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry (Jack) and Hattie (Florence) Thrasher and daughter-in-law, Jane Athey Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of life for Becky will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034.
