Carolyn Sue Baker Hinds, age 79, of Springtown, Texas, passed from this life to her eternal reward at her home on the early morning of Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was supported in prayer and love by her friends and family and cared for by her dedicated and loving daughter and son-in-law.
Carolyn came into this world on July 21, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, the sixth child of the three sons and four daughters born to the Baker family. She often spoke of her especially close bond with her sisters and of her mother, Ida Sue, making “cat head” biscuits and beans to feed her large family. The family attended church regularly, and, as a young child, Carolyn committed her life to Christ. She faithfully served Him all of her days.
After graduating from Birdville High School in 1963, Carolyn worked as a Directory Assistance Operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. At a church event, her blue eyes and sweetness caught the attention of Edgar Clinton Hinds. After a short courtship, they were married on January 3, 1964. Their many years together were blessed with both a son and a daughter.
Carolyn enjoyed competition volleyball, travel, and music. She was gifted with a sharp mind that loved learning new things. She kept a lovely and welcoming home where friends and family often gathered for a delicious home-cooked meal. She served her church as a featured soloist, a worker in children’s ministry, and as an alto in the choir. Her harmony was beautiful.
After her children were both in school, Carolyn worked hard to fulfill her life-long dream of attending nursing school. Her smile was radiant as she was pinned as first in her class. Her long career in nursing included working with several local hospitals and medical offices in the fields of general practice, OB/GYN, and ENT. She was a gifted and caring nurse.
Above all, Carolyn’s grandchildren, fondly referred to as her “grandboys,” were her pride and joy. Even after her illness began to
take its toll, she cared for them, sacrificed for them, prayed for them, and delighted in their triumphs. In her last days, she was cheered by the news of one of her “grandboy’s” engagement to be married.
Carolyn loved white cars, the color pink, and Thanksgiving. Her quick wit was hilarious and her love had no bounds. Carolyn readily walked through fire with those she loved. Her selfless and empathetic spirit made her ever ready to listen, to console, and to help others, especially those in her circle. In her later years, she braved the pain and impairment of her illness with little complaint. She never quit singing, never quit praising God, never quit giving, and never missed the opportunity to say “God is good.” Her faith, that mischievous sparkle in her eye, and her quick wit was an inspiration until the end. Her touch and laughter will be missed but her strong and extraordinary spirit will remain with everyone she touched.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Wynona Rush and Dorothy McBryde; and her brothers, Robert Baker, James Baker, and Marvin Baker.
She is survived by her children Jeff Hinds and wife, Wendy and Angie Monk and her husband, Bo; her sister Joan Perry; her grandchildren Steele Hinds, Clinton Kierych, Josh Miller, Colton Hinds, and Mason Morgan; three great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who love her dearly.
Visitation for Carolyn is Monday, June 10, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034. Her funeral service is on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034. A graveside service will take place in the memorial park immediately after the funeral.
