

Dewey Wayne Butler, 74 years, of Grapevine Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Dewey was born in 1950 to Norman and Betty Butler in Grand Prairie Texas. Dewey spent his childhood and teenage years in Grand Prairie.
After graduation from Grand Prairie High School, Dewey married his sweetheart, Shirley, in 1968. Dewey and Shirley met in church at the age of 8 years. They remained friends through the years and reconnected in 1968. They celebrated 55 years of marriage on December 20, 2023.
Dewey joined the U S Army in 1969 and served a six year tour with the U S Army as Aircraft Crew Chief responsible for service and repair of aircraft. His tour included Vietnam 1970-1971 earning him the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
After Dewey’s military service, Dewey attended and graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute. Dewey spent his career as a service technician and in sales for Briggs Equipment being awarded the President’s Award during his career with Briggs before retiring in 2012.
Before and after retiring, Dewey spent his free time building furniture for their home and for others. His love for building furniture could be seen in the furniture that he designed and built. Dewey and Shirley loved to travel and enjoyed many years traveling before and after retirement exploring new destinations with Pennsylvania and Canada being their favorites.
Dewey loved Jesus and demonstrated Christ-like love to his family, friends and others. He was a keeper of human connections, maintaining lifelong friendships across distances and time.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Betty Butler and his baby brother.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 55 years. His sister, Janell (Ed) Mayfield of Mexia TX. His niece, Michelle Morphis of Manchaca Tx, nephew Jerod (Lin) Bledsoe of Kyle Tx, great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces. Dewey is also survived by Shirley’s siblings, Jerry (Tookie) Johnson of El Paso TX, Debbie Johnson of Flower Mound TX, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
The Family and Friends Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
