Edward Reynolds Maness, of Flower Mound, Texas passed away on October 3, 2017 in Lewisville, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a loyal friend with a boisterous laugh, a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, and an avid tennis player. He was born on August 7, 1939 in Charlotte, NC. As an infant, he was adopted by Harvey and Marriott Maness, whom always considered Ed their “baby boy”. Ed grew up in Raleigh but moved to Clearwater, FL his senior year in high school. With his strong Southern drawl, he quickly earned the nickname “Chitlins” by his new Floridian friends and became a standout on the basketball team. Upon graduating Clearwater High School in 1957, Ed played basketball at St. Petersburg Junior College and then earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. Ed began his business career as the store assistant manager at WT Grant Company; it is there where he met the cosmetics salesgirl and his future wife, Marie Yost, in 1962. They married in 1965 and moved to Texas in 1976. Upon moving to Texas, Ed quickly got involved with the local tennis groups, first as a founding member of the FMTA (Flower Mound Tennis Association), then as a flight coordinator for TCD (Tennis Competitors of Dallas). In fact, his TCD mixed doubles team that he started 25 years ago still competes to this day. As a consummate salesman, he found a variety of jobs over the years but landed his dream career in selling church bonds with AB Culbertson & Sons. He worked in the industry for 30 years, earning numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding sales performance and was named to the Board of Directors with his final employer, Great Nation Investment Corporation, where he retired in 2012. Ed was a Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Lake Worth, Florida and a founding member of Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church in Flower Mound, Texas. Ed passed away peacefully at Lewisville Medical Center with his wife and daughter at his side. Ed is survived by his wife, Marie Maness of Flower Mound, TX; his daughter, Tracy Huber and her husband Darren Huber, and his two grandchildren, Hayden and Addison, of Flower Mound, TX; his sister, Sally Maness Kennedy, of Conover, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Maness Butler, and his parents.
