Mrs. Gwendolyn Naomi Nolan

Nolan, Gwendolyn Naomi, 94 of North Richland Hills passed away April 14, 2023. Gwen was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts on May 24, 1928. Her parents, Charles and Bessie Harrington emigrated from Nova Scotia, Canada to start their family. She was the youngest of three. Edward was the oldest and her sister, Gladys, was her best friend.

Gwen met the love of her life, Bill Nolan while roller skating at the local rink when she was 19 years old. In order to catch her eye, Bill cleaned and oiled her skates. After a fourteen-month engagement, they married on July 31, 1948. Their romance lasted for 74 years of always holding hands whether it was walking or sitting together.

Bill served in World War II and was called back into service for the Korean Conflict. While he was overseas, she worked at Gilchrist’s Department Store as a bookkeeper. When he was gone, Gwen saved their money and put the downpayment on their first house, so Bill would have a home when he came back from the war. Gwen followed her husband’s career across the United States living in Boston, Cleveland, Miami, Fort Worth, Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco, while raising their two sons, Ken and Bob. When Bill retired from Sherwin-Williams, they moved back to the Fort Worth area where they lived for the past 40 years.

Gwen and Bill have been members of First United Methodist Church-Hurst for 36 years. Gwen will be, lovingly. remembered by sons, William Kenneth (Ken) of Grapevine, Robert Charles (Bob) and wife Toni of Chicago, grandchildren, Irissa Anne Nolan of Roanoke, Ryan William Nolan and wife Miranda of Chicago and Sami Nolan of Chicago, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 12:30pm, Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 525 Colleyville Rd., Colleyville, Texas 76034. Memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Church-Hurst or Casual Cat Café of Richland Hills.
