

Gwendolyne Higgins Welsh was called to her heavenly home on July 8, 2016. She was 89 years of age. Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel and will be followed by interment at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held the evening prior, on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Gwendolyne was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to parents Willard Dee and Floy Lee Wall Higgins on January 14, 1927. After her mother Floy’s death in 1933, her father remarried Lucille Vandiver Higgins. Gwen was raised in Wichita Falls where she met and later married, her beloved husband, Wayne L. Welsh. They lived in North Hollywood, California for many years before moving to Watauga, Texas in 1973, where she lived until her passing. Gwendolyne was artistic and enjoyed oil painting, had a green thumb and was very fond of gardening and sewing as well. She often enjoyed listening to country music. Gwendolyne was a long time and dedicated employee of Birdville ISD. She worked at numerous School Cafeterias throughout the district preparing meals for the children, and retired after approximately 20 years of service. Gwendolyne was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother, and sister, and leaves behind beautiful memories of spirited times spent with those she loved. She will be dearly missed. Gwendolyne is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne L. Welsh and her son, Brett Dwayne Welsh. She is also preceded by her parents, Willard, Floy and Lucille Higgins; sister, Alma Lou Staniford, and her brother, Joe D. Higgins. Left to cherish her memory are: Son, Peter Welsh; grandchildren, Brittany Jett, and Brett Welsh, 2 great-grandchildren, Kylie and Garrett Roe; sister, Betty Ester; brother Bill Higgins and wife, Francie Higgins and a host of extended family members.
