Judy was my cousin. My six-year-old son loves reptiles. Judy did too. I… don’t. They activate my fight-or-flight response. There is a Reptile Zoo in our state with captive animals living in terrariums. Like giant snakes, poisonous lizards, crocodiles… you name it, they have it, and the animals are lovingly tended by a devoted staff. We’ve visited for walking around and admiring (him) and enduring (me). 

Well, the Reptile Zoo does “Feeding Night” on Fridays. You can imagine how energized this concept made my nervous system. My son was begging me to take him. We were at an impasse. 

Enter Judy! She was planning a family visit and I asked if she might be interested in Feeding Night. “Definitely!” she said. She was excited to meet other reptile lovers and to see the zoo itself. 

We drove about an hour to get there, with both my son and Judy passionately talking about reptiles the whole way. Once we got there, they ran off to watch the show and I huddled in a corner. I got the audio-only version: “Ok, step back, everyone” Then the creeaaakk of the terrarium lid. Then a disturbing pause, and… BANG! the sound of the snake bashing into the glass while catching the prey. And a long “Ooooooooohh” from the appreciative crowd, my son’s and Judy's happy voices and among them.

He had a marvelous time, and Judy made that possible by not only being able to watch with him, but also relishing snakes and lizards and crocodiles and all of the other reptiles the way that he does. It was a really special visit and probably my strongest memory of Judy. I’m glad that I got a chance to spend that time with her, and that she and my son got to bond over their love of all things reptilian. 

I miss Judy and I’m really sad that she and my son won’t be able to avidly talk about reptiles together anymore. But I am grateful for the time that we had together, and very appreciative for the love and kindness that Judy brought to everyone she knew, in all parts of her life.

Judy was so brilliant. When she was three, I was bragging to someone that she already knew her alphabet.  And somehow she was challenged on that, so she repeated it, forward AND  BACKWARDS! 
  I will miss her so much.   Her Mom.

My Aunt Judy was a wonderful and special person. She was kind and intelligent. I remember long phone calls and unconditional love and support. Our holiday visits with family were times to play and catch-up. She was empathetic and compassionate to everyone. Aunt Judy, you were taken too soon and we'll miss you more than words can say.

We did not know Judy for very long, but it felt like it.  She was always so warm and caring and always had a beautiful smile. Her contribution to the small group was always encouraging and heartfelt.  She will be dearly missed.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  We pray the Lord fills you with sweet memories and brings you comfort and peace.

Judy was a fabulous and generous person, and an excellent writer. To help an elderly lady she didn’t even know, she spent almost two years writing a character for a post-apocalyptic fiction series. Her portrayal of a woman emotionally damaged by her experiences was beautifully heart-wrenching. And she did it for charity. 

I’m so sad that the world won’t see more of her writing, or the love she shared through her actions. 

May perpetual light shine upon her.

Judy was my dearest friend for nearly 45 years. We were assigned to be dormitory roommates at band camp the summer after 8th grade, and by nightfall, we were inseparable. We were each other's maid of honor, had our children around the same time, we weathered life's ups and downs together.   She knew me better than anyone, saw me at my best and worst, and loved me just the same. She was a true friend in every sense of the word. My life was made richer by knowing her, and my heart is broken by losing her. My deepest sympathies to her family—there will never be another Judy

So sorry for your loss. Judy was a great friend in middle and high school and always remembered fondly. Gone too soon
