Ken Shumack, my “Brother Ken”.
I meet Ken in January of 2018, when we were both hired by the same company.  We became fast friends and confidants.  Partners in business and crime LOL!  A short but incredibly wonderful friendship, that I will cherish for the rest of my days.  I think of you every day my friend and I miss you.  They always say the good die young and this is a prime example.  This man made me a better person.  He made anyone he touched a better person.
I love you my brother. Save me a spot at the table I will bring the bourbon.  Until we meet again. 

Kenneth, you have been the brother I never had.  I feel so blessed that my best friend of 40+years, Sandra, brought you into my life.  We have shared such great laughter, heart-to-heart talks, and many poker games where you would either take 1st or 2nd place, pool games where you always won.  You were the most gracious competitor I have ever known.  You touched so many lives, were so full of kindness and were born with integrity.  Heaven has taken another angel to watch over all of those that loved you dearly and lucky to have you.  We will be grateful when that day comes when we will be reunited with you.  I love you and you will forever be in my heart.  You make me want to be a better person.  I am grateful and plan to celebrate the time I had with you.

Kenneth Ray was my first nephew. He was born when I was about nine years old, and I loved that little guy from the first time I saw him. He was a handsome baby and grew into a handsome man. Kenneth’s mother, my sister Yvonne, helped me through high school, as I lived with them for three years. During that period Kenneth and I became close. At times I even took him with me when I went on dates. You could tell he felt like such a big guy with his hair combed just right, and occasionally I would put a little aftershave on his cheeks.   He was always so polite and acted the part of a gentleman. I would at times feel left out when my date would give him more attention  than I received. When he was little, he would say he wanted to be a ladies man like Elvis Presley, and he sure had the looks to do just that. I would take him hunting and fishing, and he and I would have a great ole time together. Once we entered him in a fishing tournament for kids and he ended up winning first place, got his picture on the front page of the newspaper, and received several gifts. 
Kenneth wrote me a letter last year-- and not just a letter --but one that carried a profound message. He told me he wanted me to know he loved me and always loved being around me and wished we could get together more often. But he did have a confession to make. He said, “Uncle Carl, I want to tell you I am the one who burned circles on the steering wheel  of your car with your cigarette lighter.” That was one of the sweetest confessions I have ever received. But of course, I knew it was he, who as a young boy, had done the artwork.  It was long forgotten.  Another time I had injured my elbow playing football, and it had swollen up considerably. I told him and Charles that wherever I touched them with my elbow they would get a big bump like that. I had so much fun playing that game with them. I still laugh about those great times we had together.

Kenneth was my birth father; and we only found out about each other two years ago.  God allowed me to be with him as he went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a closed-adopted child, I never thought I would know anything about my birth father. And he had no clue he had a child out there somewhere. But because of Ancestry.com and his cousin Stacy, she pieced it all together and united me with my Dad.  We enjoyed two years together as father and daughter, and I am so glad he came to know he was, indeed, a father. He always wanted to be a dad. We unpacked and shared 50 years of memories into two years. Our trips back and forth to see each other, as well as endless phone conversations, allowed us precious time. I am grateful to have had an opportunity to know and love him. He was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord, and had no doubt where he was going after his time here on Earth. RIP dad. Until we meet again ❤️🙏💔

Ken I miss you already.  We had worked together and become friends.  Even after going to work for different companies we remained friends.  Hearing that mans voice would lighten my day if I was having a bad one.  He could make me laugh.  He could keep my ear with educating me on the bible.  Because of Ken I became a Stephen Minister and got involved more at church.  Ken was a good man and I could not imagine my life without his bible teaching and kind words for any occasion but I guess I will have to learn to live without him and just let my memories teach me to be more like him.  Thank you Ken for being a good friend and mentor.  Love you man.
