She was born on November 13, 1933 in Gainesville, FL and her life took her to residences in Jacksonville, Atlanta, Philadelphia (So. Jersey), Ft. Worth, Orlando, Stuart, FL and lastly, DFW.
Lou was best known for her successes as a TV personality. There were two shows, the first one in the mid-60s, was a weekly live country & western music show called “The Glenn Reeves Show” based in Jacksonville. She was known on that show as “Miss Pigtails” for her long natural braids. Her second show was hosting and starring as “Princess Cindy Lou” on the “Cindy Lou’s Cartoon Castle” show, broadcast live on Saturday and Sunday mornings on Philadelphia’s WFIL - TV 6 from 1969 until 1974. She returned to broadcasting in the early 80s by working as an on-air personality at WJNJ Radio in Jax Beach.
She had three wonderful men in her life. She and her first husband “Johnnie” met in Gainesville and eloped to Georgia to get married. She enjoyed people knowing the fact that she was married at 17 while still in high school. She also loved to share that while they were married on April 1st, her term was “it weren’t no joke!” John passed in 1992 and years later she met Albert Spain. They enjoyed many years together in the Orlando area until he too passed. Fortunately, one more time, love struck and she met and married Charles Nielsen. He cherished her and was a wonderful husband to her until his death in 2010.
In addition to her broadcasting careers, she worked with Walt Disney World’s 24K in former Lake Buena Vista, was a top listing salesperson for Jax Chamber of Commerce and Ft. Worth’s Alhambra Dinner Theater.
She was a long time member of the former Toastmistress (Toastmasters) organization, president of the Jacksonville Storytellers Club, leader of the Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group in Stuart, loved her books, browsing the daily newspaper, clipping coupons, scarves with grandkids, singing, harmonizing, and when family visits came to an end, waving goodbye to them until well out of sight, as her mother had done for her family.
Lou is survived by her son Mark Olson, daughter-in-law April Olson, grandchildren Lyndsey Olson Chapman, Leanne Olson, Marley Olson Upthagrove, and Marcus Olson and has one great-grandson, Liam Upthagrove.
Lou is preceded in death by her mother Quincy Ann Victoria Miller, father Buford Lacount Dean, husband A. John Olson, husband Al Spain, husband Chuck Nielsen, and two half-sisters, Annie Jacks and Nita Reed.
At Lou’s request, we are not holding a memorial service. Her cremains will be interned in Jacksonville Beach next to her mom Quincy Ann Victoria Miller, and Alexander John Olson, her first husband and father of their only child.
