So sorry to just learn of Lt Rucker ‘s passing. I supervised Ruben at Saginaw PD for several years. I could always trust him to be doing his job and he needed little supervision on the job and was a great officer to work with. He was also one of the best paramedics I’ve ever seen. I recall an incident when Ft Worth PD had pursued a vehicle into Saginaw and driver wrecked out in a ditch by the RR tracks. Driver was ejected through windshield and literally was scalped. Ruben arrived on scene and I arrived shortly thereafter. Ruben advised me that Ft Worth officers told him to leave the scene and they were setting up a crime scene. They thought the man was dead. I told the Ft Worth officers that they were in my city and Officer Rucker was going to treat the man. Long story short helicopter was called to transport victim and he survived. Ft Worth officers later told me they thought  the man was killed and could not believe he lived. I told them if there was any paramedic who could save someone until he was transported to the hospital it was Ruben. Just one of many stories of Ruben in action and saving lives. 
RIP my brother. I will always remember you. 

I worked with Ruben at Saginaw Police Department many years ago.  Ruben was sharp as tack, funny and a caring human being. There were many times I was grateful that it was Ruben on duty.  But the fondest memories of Ruben were the times he had us all in stitches laughing. He was the king of practical jokes, some of which I have yet to return the favor. I hope I get that chance. My condolences to the family. Your grief is shared by many.

Sorry for your loss. Ruben was a co-worker and a friend. We shared many discussions and had many laughs together. One time he delivered a baby while we were working, because there was not enough time to get the mom to the hospital.  Rest in peace Ruben

My condolences to the Rucker family.  

Ruben interviewed me for my job at Saginaw Police Department.  That was 1990.  His hair was a little darker then and I was a whole lot skinnier.   Ruben had profound influence on me.  In fact, I still quote him in classes I teach to this day.  Ruben was dedicated to his family and his profession.  That’s a challenging balance, but he somehow managed it well.  Ruben was tough when he needed to be.  He was just as caring.  He hid that part well, but it would sneak out on occasion.  If something needed done, Ruben was the man to ask.  If he disagreed, be assured he’d let you know.  But in that disagreement came passion, knowledge and experience.  He changed my mind many a time.

As I talk about him here, Ruben sounds like a colleague.   He was that.  But he was also a friend.  Like so often happens today we lose touch with others in our lives.  I’ll regret not staying closer as our paths diverged.  Friends should.  Rest in peace Ruben Rucker.  I will miss you.



Ruben was a heat work mate at Ray Crowde. He was very smart and was very passionate in helping people when they were either sick or hurt. He was every bodies friend, witty and was serious at times of need. Ruben, R.I.P., you were not only a friend but all’s of us were family and had each other’s back. 

Ruben was a patient of ours for many, many years... a very smart and witty man who, even during his declining health, managed to keep a positive attitude.  We always scheduled him at the end of the morning or afternoon so he was the last patient because he and the doctor, without fail, would engage in long conversations, and there was always laughter behind that closed door.  My conversations with him ALWAYS ended with "thanks, kid.  Y'all be safe".   He had a way about him and left an impression on us all.  His presence will be missed in this office.

My condolences to the Rucker family. I worked with Sgt. Rucker during my time with the Saginaw Police Department. He was one of the finest Sgt’s I have had the pleasure working for. He will always hold a special place in my heart because of the talks we had. I will always look to those times for guidance and reflection in my law enforcement career.

Thank you Sgt Rucker for being an inspiration to me. I look forward to chatting with you again on the other side.
