Luz Isabel Waddell went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 2, 2017. She was born in Dallas on July 1, 1948 to Aurora and Rufino Garza and attended North Dallas High School graduating in 1966. She obtained her degree in Radiologic Technology at Baylor University Medical Center and continued as an X-ray Technician where she met her husband, Douglas H. Waddell, M.D. The couple married in 1971 and were blessed with their first child, Amy, in 1972. Luz left Baylor to stay home to raise her family. In 1974, she welcomed her first son, Chris, and in 1979, welcomed her youngest son, Brandon. She had a passion for youth. Not only did she love her children, but she devoted herself to impacting the lives of so many others at Trinity Christian Academy and First Baptist Church Dallas. She traveled the world with the Chapel Choir at First Baptist Dallas spreading the Gospel and becoming an adopted mom to countless students whom she taught. She always greeted everyone with a hug and loved helping the less fortunate. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufino, her mother, Aurora, and her sister Isabel. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Douglas; her children: Amy and Andy Swanner, Chris and Reagan Waddell, and Brandon and Stacie Waddell; six precious grandchildren, and her siblings: Carmen Emery, Joe Garza, and Dr. Rosemary Christy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, July 8th in the Historic Sanctuary at First Baptist Church, Dallas with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Student Mission Tour Fund at First Baptist, Dallas.
