His wife, Wanda, was by his side as he quietly passed away. They loved each other very much and he will be missed deeply by those who loved him throughout his life, including their dog Evie who hates all men except for Don.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Wanda C. Asire. He also is survived by his daughter, Darleen Asire and her four children, his three grandsons, Justin Falahi, Action Lavitch and Chance Lavitch, his granddaughter, Courtney Lavitch, and a great grandson, Drake Falahi. Don’s parents, Ralph and Edith, had four children during their 65 years of marriage. Don’s sister, Carol Halverstadt and a brother, Robert Asire, survive him. Don was predeceased by his daughter, Denise Leigh Asire, and his other sister, Beverly Davisson.
His siblings’ children fondly called him Uncle Donny. He was the “favorite Uncle.” He had five nephews. Gary, the eldest son of his sister Beverly, passed away a few weeks after Beverly. His brother Bob has two sons, Robert and Rick, his sister Carol has two sons, Greg and Curt Halverstadt. Don’s three nieces were twins Diann and Darla, Beverly’s girls (we lost Darla in 1977), and Cheryl Howing, the daughter of Carol.
Don was born on July 2, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a gracious and fun-loving man who enjoyed travel, his many neighborhood friends, a perfectly chilled martini, and the gourmet pies and cakes made by Wanda.
Don served in the Air Force as Military Police during World War II and was stationed in Puerto Rico. He proudly served as President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s body guard on a special detail to which he was assigned.
After the service, he joined American Airlines in operations and worked for the company for 38 years.
After his retirement from American Airlines he built several custom homes, a passion and talent he had since he was a young man. He had excellent carpentry skills and could fix just about anything. The only thing he won’t be able to fix is our broken hearts.
Don was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Don’s honor to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 2701 Harwood Rd, Bedford, TX 76021.
