Renato was born on January 23, 1950 in Silang, Cavite, Philippines to Benito Franco Benitez Sr. and Benilda De La Rosa Madlangsakay Benitez. On May 14th, 1978 he married Carina Nepomuceno. Renato and Carina raised two boys, John Benitez and Jason Benitez.
Renato grew up in a large family and was the fourth born of nine siblings (8 brothers, 1 sister). Most people referred to him as Rene, but he had many nicknames throughout his life. His immediate family always called him Sonny. His wife, Nina, had a long list of nicknames for him, but most often called him Honey. His boys kept it simple with Dad but would like to use the nickname of Popsies to joke around with him. Of all the nicknames, his most cherished was Grandpa. He loved his three grandchildren, William, Isaac, and Ellie, more than anything and would beam with pride when showing them off.
Family was truly the most important thing to him. He devoted his life to his family, both growing up and when he had a family of his own. He was a highly intelligent and thoughtful man, who worked hard to provide a wonderful life for those he cared about and was quick to step in to help those who needed the help, not for any recognition or attention, but because he believed it was the right thing to do. His joy in life was derived from the joy he could bring others. Beyond spending time with family or his grandkids, Rene loved listening to music and watching sports. In the right setting, it was not uncommon to find him singing loudly along to his albums or out on the dancefloor cutting up with everyone. Every Sunday was dedicated to his beloved Dallas Cowboys, and while every season was not necessarily full of joy, his dedication never wavered.
Rene was preceded in death by his father, Benito, his mother, Benilda, and his brothers, Armando, Jaime, Percival, and Alvin. He is survived by his wife, Carina, his sons, John and Jason, and his siblings, Benito Jr., Oscar, Enrico, Lilibeth, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
