He was born in Coshocton, Ohio on April 8th, 1933, to Seldon B. Mapel Sr, and Wilma Onieda Mapel (Stiteler). Seldon graduated from Rosco High School and received a master’s degree and Ph. D from North Texas State University.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 - 1955 as an Intelligence Officer
Seldon married Jane Elizabeth Rankin on August 30th, 1958, and had a career as a professional counselor at Tarrant County Junior College.
He was a member of the Texas Counseling Association and served as President for 2 years. He had a passion for helping students decide their career path. He also had a passion for sports where he enjoyed coaching both of his sons in basketball and baseball and loved to play golf every chance he had.
Seldon is survived by sons Fred and Stacy (Tracy), daughter Alice, and granddaughter Autumn.
A visitation will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas, 76034, United States, on December 8, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
