Sherry was born in Philadelphia, MS on November 29, 1952 to OL and Delma Adkins. She is survived by her daughter Monica Ray, her son-in-law Landry, and grandson Matthew She is also survived by her sister Sandra Hutchison, brother-in-law Butch, and her brother Tracy Adkins, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She graduated from Pearl High School in Pearl, MS in 1970, and had a career in the Federal Civil Service. As a military spouse, she lived many places including Pensacola, FL, Okinawa, Omaha, NE, Biloxi, MS, and Oklahoma City, OK where she worked at Tinker Air Force Base for almost thirty years. After retirement, she moved to Texas to live close to her daughter and son-in-law and “the most wonderful grandson in the world “, and she cherished all of her time with him. Matthew and “Mommiss” would go to movies, eat ice cream for breakfast, participate in college football pools, discuss NASCAR, and have spirited political debates.
Sherry’s home was her refuge, and her residences were always decorated impeccably with items acquired from her travels. You could hear music from almost any genre playing through the speakers. She was a devoted fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. For many years, she never missed a game at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. She also enjoyed spending time shopping, walking her dogs (Cagney and Houston),and having marathon phone calls with her friends from across the country.
Sherry was always a planner. When she received her diagnosis, she chose to go without treatment to preserve her quality of life for as long as possible. The last nineteen months were as she wished and on her schedule. She enjoyed meals and celebrations with Monica, Landry and Matthew, and short visits with dear friends who traveled to Dallas to see her.
Her request was for no pomp and circumstance in a celebration of her life, so no memorial service is planned. You may toast her memory with her favorite beverage Coca-Cola , and donations can be made in her honor to Trinity Gap Rescue trinitygaprescue.org 1517 Westpark Way, Euless, TX 76040.
