Shirley was born July 12, 1935, to Elijah Ervin McGehee and Gracie Bell Norsworthy McGehee in Pineville, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Louisiana State University.
On December 19, 1969, Shirley married her lifelong partner Robert Charles (Chuck) Hogan. They spent 54 years together. During their professional working years, they lived in Duncanville and Bedford, Texas, and upon retirement they moved to their beloved Cactus Hill property in Mineral Wells. They spent 25 years there, raising Longhorns, watching the deer, and enjoying their friends in the community. They had recently relocated to StoneCreek of North Richland Hills.
Shirley retired with 28 years from IBM in July, 1991. Her career was varied, being a secretary in Beaumont, Texas, working the switchboard in Dallas HQ, moving to education and later becoming the telecommunications specialist for her sites. Shirley taught many new employees what it meant to be an IBMer, moved into management, and enjoyed her career. Lifelong friendships were formed.
Shirley’s passions in retirement were raising their Longhorns and dogs. She had a special fondness for Juni the donkey and Copper the mule. She enjoyed leather tooling, knitting, and her Cactus Hill estate. Shirley was an experienced pilot and enjoyed flying. Shirley served as the pastor’s secretary in her local church and was active in the local woman’s club.
