Shirley was born in Ft. Worth, TX on Jan. 2, 1940 to Rufus and Lillian Brown. She was a graduate of North Side HS. After graduation, she moved to Hurst where she lived for the next 52 years, ending at Heritage Village Residences.
She made many good friends and enjoyed her senior activities and the staff. In the mid 70’s, Shirley and Jerry opened Hartique, a specialty beauty salon that they successfully operated until 1978, at which time Shirley aimed her goals toward an education.
She completed her BBA/Accounting at TCU in 1981 and went on to obtain a Masters in Education at the UNT. She taught for a decade in various positions, including advanced math and computer science for middle and high school students as a faculty member in the Math Department at UNT.
In her retirement years, Shirley filled her life with the same enthusiasm for learning. She dedicated her skills to mastering needle point, beading and all things creative. She was an active Nana, caring for Shelby as a child and then later, participating in school activities and sports. Shirley and Jerry loved those many happy memories with family.
Shirley is preceded in death in April 2016 by her beloved husband, Jerry; her son, Scott White, in 2014; parents, Rufus and Lillian Brown, and brother, Rodney Brown.
Survivors: Daughter, Wendy Chaney, and her husband, Phil; grandchildren, Chad and Shelby Chaney and many friends.
