This Betty hit the jackpot when she moved right nextdoor to Betty and Carmie Davis. I could not have asked for better neighbors. Their kindness and thoughtfulness knew no bounds. I shall take the liberty to speak for the entire block in saying that we all shall miss Betty, her husband Carmie, and their daughter Sabrina. May they rest in the sweet peace of God’s everlasting love. That love continues to shine on all of us in their daughters Nita and Rita and their families.

Our sweet Mim was an amazing woman. When I was young she would let me “do” her hair with a metal comb. I really thought I was doing something lol. The many days spent in her back yard playing basketball, helping her with putting laundry on the line to dry and running around in my Wonder Woman outfit. Making memories for me to cherish is what she did for me. She loved unconditionally. She taught me about different birds, Jesus and baking. When I was 16 I went to Merle Norman for her to teach me how to apply makeup…that was so special!! 

My mama gave so much of herself.  While we were growing up, she saved up enough money thru the year to make sure her 3 girls got a summer pass to go to the VFW swimming pool every summer: might not sound like a big deal to some but we knew the many sacrifices she made for us.  While she worked as a Merle Norman consultant, she would visit the local nursing homes and give free facials to various patients, making friends with them along the way. This was a calling for her to continue her visits and witness to those she met and they so looked forward to her visits. Many of them ended up being church friends she could make a little happier but most were those who had no one visiting them. This is who my mother was.♥️

My mama volunteered to coach our CHS basketball team after our previous coach passed away. She couldn’t understand why no one on the faculty would coach us. So she stepped up and assumed the role of “Coach”.  She did not get paid one penny all those years she coached. She even used her own vehicle to transport players to practice and the games, sometimes even taking some of the players home afterwards. She played high school basketball and loved it & wanted everyone to have the opportunity. We often talked about it over the years and she said that she loved those girls and no question, would do it all over again… THAT’S my mama❤️

It was always a joy to see Betty! Whenever I made my way back to the Memphis area, there was always one stop I had to make. That was a visit to see this beautiful lady who has come to mean so much to me and my family!

We talked about church, her love of family, memories of loved ones who’d passed (Sabrina, Carmie and my own father), and, of course, basketball.

I will miss her sweet smile and her kind words, but I’m thankful her suffering in this life is over. Betty will always occupy a  most special place in my heart and memory!

I remember Mrs. Davis being a choir member for years and seeing her in the loft every Sunday morning. She looked so pretty and put-together every time I saw her.  May God give her family comfort and know that y’all will see her in Heaven. 

Mrs. Betty was the sweetest and most beautiful lady in Collierville.  She and Mr. Carmie were always avid sports fans.  I loved to hear her sing.
