Dr. Robert Henry “Bob” Guinter passed away at his home on August 9, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in 1947 in York, PA, and was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Guinter. Bob is survived by Dee, his loving wife of 45 years. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Venable (Bob), of Roanoke, VA. Bob was blessed with two sons and their wives; Brian and Kacey Guinter of Collierville, TN and Scott and Karla Guinter of Republic, MO. He took great delight in spending time with his seven grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pop: Kallie, Josh, Drew, Lauren, Cooper, Caleb, and Brooklyn. They brought great joy to his life.
Bob graduated from Greece Olympia High School in Greece, New York; Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA with a BA; and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY with his MD. After receiving his pediatric training at the Phoenix Hospitals Affiliated Pediatric Program in Phoenix, AZ, Bob practiced pediatrics in three locations: Marion Pediatrics in Marion, VA; Health First Medical Group in Memphis, TN; and Pediatrics East in Memphis, TN.
Bob had a love for God and a relationship with Jesus that touched every part of his life. He was actively involved at Collierville First Baptist Church and was a long-time leader of young men, many of whom are now in ministry positions in Memphis and around the world. He had a great love of music, and enjoyed playing French horn in church orchestras. Bob’s desire to share the love of Jesus with others led him to go on mission trips around the world, including Nigeria, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, India, Afghanistan, and Zambia. He authored an illustrated children’s book and wrote a prayer calendar with Dee. Bob loved to garden, and will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11 from 6-8 at Collierville First Baptist Church, and a service celebrating his life will be Tuesday, August 12 at 2:00 at Collierville First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Collierville First Baptist Church World Mission Offering fund.
